The English Champion Leicester Eagles start their campaign for a third straight domestic title with a hat trick of wins
The Leicester Eagles began the defense of their domestic title with three wins and just one loss in their four games so far.
In the season opener in Woodham, the Eagles over came impressive newcomers Woodham Warriors Black in triple overtime. Tit for tat scoring throughout the game, and sudden death over time drives lead to an eventual 36-35 win for the Champions. New signing Garry Crawford (ex Kirkcaldy Bulls) and James Pimperton starred for the Eagles.
In the second game of the day, The Eagles struggled badly against a disappointing Coventry side, eventually snuffing out a last ditch two point attempt to hold on 27-25.
Over the Bank Holiday weekend, James Pimperton slotted in to his new position as quarterback and oversaw a stuttering display falling to the Woodham Warriors White 19-0. The Eagles then rallied for the their fourth game of the season, scoring a maiden win at their new home of the Knighton Park Bowl. Facing long time rivals the Chichester Sharks, a fine defensive display from the likes of Charlie Craggs and rookie Nathan Stevenson helped the Eagles edge a tight affair. The Eagles toughed out a 12-7 win.
After a quarter of the season, the Eagles sit firmly in playoff contention at 3-1. With the expected withdrawl of the St. Albans Kings, this could move to 5-1 before the Eagles play next in July.
